Alaska native Megan Spurkland (below) is a member of the PSIA nordic Team. She began skiing at three and took up racing in fifth grade, and started ski instructing during high school. Megan competed as a cross-country skier for Whitman College (a Division III school) in Washington. After college she began coaching at Homer High School. In 2008, she launched Homer Women’s Nordic to get more women involved in fitness and nordic skiing. The group has since grown to 80 cross-country skiers.
